Weigh on Long Range Park Improvements

Preferred redesign concept for Victory Park

How do you feel about adding an orchard to Victory Park? What needs to be developed at Victory Prairie Dog Park to most benefit four-legged family members? Do you see Ryan Lake Park as a quiet natural preserve or a hip recreational amenity?

These are the questions being addressed in the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board’s (MPRB) North Service Area Master Plan (NSAMP). Over the past 18 months, staff from the MPRB has worked to engage the community in planning for long-range capital improvements to every park in North Minneapolis. During that time, MPRB representatives have attended and hosted countless events to learn what North Minneapolis residents need and want out of their neighborhood parks. The feedback provided at the events and online was then turned over to teams of designers who took the input and re-imagined every park on the Northside.

Preferred redesign concept for Ryan Lake Park

Preferred design concepts have now been identified for most parks. The preferred concepts will serve as the foundation for future renovations as capital improvement funds become available. Victory Park, adjacent to Loring Community School, is slated for a $750,000 renovation in 2023. The preferred design for that park includes major changes like eliminating the tennis court and wading pool and replacing them with an adventure play area and splash pad. Concepts have also been drafted for Ryan Lake Park and Victory Prairie Dog Park.

Residents can view the designs and share their feedback using the project website or by attending an input meeting. Upcoming meetings to do an in-depth exploration of design concepts for Victory Prairie and Dog Park are:

Thursday, June 21, 6-8pm
North Commons Recreation Center

Tuesday, June 26, 6-8pm
Folwell Recreation Center
