The Environmental Committee meets on the 1st Tuesday of every month at 6:30 PM - location varies per month.
Our Purpose
The Environmental Committee's purpose is to provide the ViNA Board of Directors and community with:
- Information, education, and engaging opportunities to protect and improve our natural resources
- Increase sustainability and the resiliency of our homes, businesses, and institutions

Environmental Committee Projects
Minneapolis Ryan Lake Park
Our goals for Ryan Lake Park are to
- Work with the Minneapolis Park Board to add a canoe launch
- Enhance and maintain planted beds
- Seek grants for ecological shoreline restoration and site maintenance
- Apply for grant, seek assistance to write grants
Park District Two
Our goals for Park District 2 are:
- Advocate with the Minneapolis Parks & Recreation Board on the behalf of the neighborhood and other nearby neighborhoods for our parks
- Identify partners at other neighborhood boards to develop partnerships and liaise on park issues and meet to discuss organizational structure and processes
Enhance Available Funding
Our goals to enhance available funding is to research options for funding. Look to city, state, and federal sources for other environmental grant funds to help support environmental projects.
Home Energy Savings
Our goals to increase Home Energy Savings are:
- Work with the MN Commerce Department and U of M Extension to become a Clean Energy Resource Team
- Assist the Board in spreading the word about the new rebates and tax credits that are in the Infrastructure Reinvestment Act (IRA) including funding that will become available in 2024 for home energy upgrades such as electric panel upgrades, appliance replacement, weatherization and heat pump installation
- Assist the ViNA Board in spreading the word about the city's Climate Legacy Initiative
44th/Penn/Osseo Beautification
Our goals to beautify the 44th/Penn/Osseo intersection are to:
- In the Fall replant the seven planters on 44th & Penn
- Seek new grant funding sources
Upcoming Environmental Committee Meetings
The Environmental Committee meets on the 1st Tuesday of every month at 6:30 PM - location varies per month. During warm-weather months if weather permits, we meet at Minneapolis' Ryan Lake Park, 4706 N Xerxes Avenue for a meeting and hands-on maintenance work in the garden beds, if one desires.
